In the last 20 years I've struggled with weight issues. I've seen many trainers, doctors, and nutritionists to help me lose weight. They've all discouraged me from eating fruit. "It's got too much sugar in it" they'd all say. Well, staying away from fruit did nothing to me but tip the scale closer and closer to the "get off me bitch, you weigh a ton" side. Now...the more fruit I eat, the less sugary cravings I get. Hmm, go figure...

That's my Honey working on our vegetable garden. Growing a few veggies has helped me realize what it takes to grow produce. I have a new appreciation for a well formed carrot and big plump strawberries. Do you have a little garden? A tomato plant? A cucumber plant? They're two of the easiest things to grow in my opinion. Maybe some fresh herbs growing on a sunny window sill? I wish I would have been taught to tend a garden as a kid...I think it would have shaped my life in a different way, it would have helped me appreciate food a little better. And further more, it would teach me the difference between fresh, and not. That makes all the difference.


Now, a little something about oranges...

Oranges are an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids. One orange (130 grams) supplies nearly 100 percent of the recommended daily dietary intake of vitamin C.

When you eat a whole orange, it provides good dietary fiber. Leave in the albedo (the white matter under the peel) as much as possible as the albedo contains the highest amount of valuable bioflavonoids and other anti-cancer agents. This I did NOT know and found it interesting because I always took that part off.... not anymore!

In addition, oranges are a good source of vitamin A, the B vitamins, amino acids, beta-carotene, pectin, potassium, folic acid, calcium, iodine, phosphorus, sodium, zinc, manganese, chlorine and iron. You're not going to get that from an orange soda, know what I mean?? (No, orange flavored candy doesn't count either.)
So what's the lesson here boys and girls, fruit is good for you and no, it won't make you fat..

today was my first full day back in cali...
after being in ny for two weeks.

two things i noticed about being with my daughter in ny...
i ate healthier (not as much junk food)...
and i walked more.

as a matter of fact...
i lost 8 pounds.

i could tell i'd lost weight...
because my skirt and jeans were baggy...
and i HAD to wear a belt...
or sag.

i chose the former. :)

in keeping with my healthy eating...
my dinner consisted of baked fish...
roasted veggies...
iced tea...
and greek yogurt for dessert.
